Concrete Imaging Technology used to Locate Obstructions Embedded in a Concrete Slab

Never go in to a demolition project without having as much information as possible. It can be difficult to determine where new floor plugs & plumbing should be placed in the design phase without having any information as to where existing conduits/structures are below. Ground Penetrating Radar is an excellent tool to utilize when trying to layout floor cores. GPR can detect structural beams, conduits, reinforcing steel, etc. inside or below concrete structures.

A general contractor had a project inside a Medical Facility in downtown Phoenix, AZ where they needed to core drill holes from the 1st to the 4th floor. The core drills were needed to install new utility pipes that passed through all 4 floors of the building.

They also had some areas in the basement of the building where saw cuts needed to be made prior to installing new plumbing & electrical. The building was still being used for classes & couldn’t have any existing utilities compromised during the drilling process. It was essential to have as much information as possible on what was embedded or below sub-surface prior to continuing with the project. The general contractor contacted Ground Penetrating Radar Systems of Arizona to scan the areas using ground penetrating radar. GPRS was able to mark the locations of existing conduits, beams & reinforcing steel directly on the surface using real time applications. GPRS scanned an area big enough to allow for any corrections to be made if a proposed core was on top of any structure or existing conduit. This allowed the general contractor to proceed with the design layout without wasting any precious time. GPRS then communicated all of its findings with the onsite Superintendent to ensure the comprehension of all the markings.

GPRS provides real time results for their clients. The methods used are extremely safe & cost effective. GPRS technicians are highly trained in every application utilized.
