Ground Penetrating Radar Used to Locate all Underground Utilities

Ground Penetrating Radar Systems, LLC. - GPRS - of Arizona was contacted by a locate contractor in the city of Tucson, Arizona to locate all underground utilities within a designated area in a commercial parking lot to clear nine separate areas for soil borings. These soil borings were expected to extend between 50 and 100 feet deep. Therefore, it was essential that all utilities were located to ensure no soil boring drill bits would damage any existing utilities.

Ground Penetrating Radar Systems, LLC. arrived on site and used both ground penetrating radar and radio detection / signal induction technologies to locate all utilities in the roadway. All utilities, such as power, communication (fiber optic and conduit), sewer lines, water, gas, and any other conduits were located, allowing for safe drilling. This gave greater safety and confidence that all drilling would go as expected without costly damages from drilling in unknown soils.

Ground penetrating Radar mapping is a great tool to scan areas of post tension cables, rebar, and conduits, including PVC pipes. Ground penetrating radar can also be used to locate underground utilities such as water, gas, electrical, communication, sewer, and other objects prior to digging or excavating.
